Interview with The Twilight Saga’s Booboo Stewart

Booboo took out some time to sit down with Media Mikes during his press tour for “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn- Part 1″ Blu-ray and chatted about his role in the series and what else he has planned upcoming.

Mike Gencarelli: What would you say has been the coolest thing that has happened to you since joining “The Twilight Saga”?
Booboo Stewart: Well there has been some really cool things…but I think the best part has been the fans. They make you these really cool handmade bracelets and in my room, my mom put these hooks up and I’ve got a bunch of them. Fans are able to send them to me via my PO Box and I’ll wear them in magazines and stuff like that. They are able to see me wearing them and I think that is really cool.

MG: I was watching some of the special features on the “Breaking Dawn- Part 1″ Blu-ray and what was you say was the most challenging aspect of that shoot?
BS: The beach scene was soooooo cold. Everyone was wearing these huge jackets and I was sitting there with my shirt off freezing. I remember that any of the shots that were above my waist, I had blankets, sweatpants, shoes…it was freezing.

MG: What can we expect from “Breaking Dawn- Part 2″?
BS: I can’t give too much away obvious, even
though its a book and all. You get to meet a lot of new characters in the second movie. During filming actually, it very hard to tell who was in which film. I can’t imagine for the AD and makeup people trying to figure out who was who. There were so many cast members on set at the same time, since they were filming two movies.

MG: “Breaking Dawn- Part 2″ looks to amp up the action from “Part 1″, how was the production?
BS: Since I starting with “Eclipse”, I think just having the different directors on set changes the whole vibe. For the short time I was there for “Eclipse”, David Slade was very technical and he knew what he wanted. When I got to work with Bill Condon, I worked with him a lot more and more personally as well. He was more of an actor’s director. He would talk to you and figure out what you are thinking in a scene and what you character was going through. This was also with everyone, didn’t matter the size of your role. So that was really different.

MG: Besides acting you also take roles in stunts and composing, tell us about that side?
BS: ...

[...] Booboo’s interests go well beyond the big screen, however; he’s also incredibly into music (he’s a guitarist and cites Boston as his favorite band) and has toured with Miley Cyrus. In addition, he’s also a big fan of superheroes and comic books; he’s even created his own character named Millenium Man.

“I made (him) up a really long time ago…It’s just a hobby, it’s all for fun. We’ll see what happens with it. It’s almost all done.”

And if he could be any superhero? “Superman.”

Booboo was an extremely easy-going guy and was great to talk to. I couldn’t help but walk away thinking years down the road, I’d be telling my (future) kids about the chance I got to interview Booboo Stewart.

Not that fandom hasn’t yet reached Stewart. He’s noted it’s more difficult to go out in public without being recognized and asked for autographs. Cognizant of the broad appeal of the franchise, Stewart has noted the occasionally absurd passion some of the fans display. “A girl got my name tattooed on her wrist,” he quipped wryly.

Asked about his future plans, Booboo offered some insight into what’s coming up. Coming out this summer is an indie film called White Frog. “I play a teenager with autism. It’s about a family who suffers from a tragic accident, and they key on my character who has to bring everyone together,” he offered, noting the learning disability that has only recently begun to garner the awareness it deserves. “I’m just really proud to have been a part of it and to create awareness for autism.” Beyond that, on-screen, he’ll be filming House of the Damned 3D, which will his first time working with 3D filming. In March, he’ll be heading on tour with his sisters on the Digitour. Still, he’s got an open ear to a few projects in particular. “I would love to be in Lord of the Rings…Even if I just got killed in the background,” he laughed.

When Booboo Stewart passed through Cleveland earlier this week, the nominal reason was to talk about The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 1.

The movie, in which Stewart plays the shape-shifting werewolf Seth, arrives on DVD and Blu-ray at 12:01 a.m. Saturday, so you can expect gatherings of young fans outside some stores — including selected Target locations — tonight. But while Stewart talked about the Twilight movie series (which he joined in the third film, Eclipse), the 18-year-old also discussed martial arts (which he began when he was 3 years old), making music (with his sister Fivel and in the Disney-made group T-Squad); White Frog, an intriguing independent film in which he plays a young man with Asperger’s; and writing a comic book, the-not yet-published Millennium Man.

The Twilight connection has opened new doors, he said. After all, it marked a huge leap in visibility for all its performers. The enormously successful films were inspired by the bestselling books by Stephenie Meyer, in which the vampire Edward (Robert Pattinson) and werewolf Jacob (Taylor Lautner) both seek the love of the human Bella (Kristen Stewart, no relation).

“The fans are incredible,” said Booboo (his real name is Nils Allan Stewart Jr.). “They are so supportive of everything you do. … It’s so amazing that people have found something they are so into. And it’s getting people to read books.”

Including Stewart.

“When I thought I might have had an audition, I started reading the books. … By the time I got the part, because they’re so long, I finally finished them,” he said with a laugh. “I read the Bible and comic books and that’s pretty much it. I’m not an avid book reader, so it took a while.”

When he came into an established franchise and cast, he said, “Everyone just kind of came together, and it was a warm and welcoming set. The hardest thing was there are so many cast members in the Twilight series, it was hard to remember everyone’s names. … Especially when we were filming Breaking Dawn [with both films shot back to back] … in the second movie, there’s a lot of characters.”

ORLANDO -- The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part I comes out on DVD Feb. 11. One of the werewolves stopped by our studios to give us the inside scoop on the film, his surprising new role, and why he was jumping on a bed near Eminem.

Eighteen-year-old Booboo Stewart stopped by Monday after spending most of the day at SeaWorld. His father was with him along with several women from his public relations team.

The following is a slice of our chat. You can watch the EXTENDED INTERVIEW starting Tuesday exclusively on Ch. 300!

ALLISON WALKER: Before we get to Breaking Dawn, tell me a bit about your experience on Eminem's music video. What was that like?

BOOBOO STEWART: I was, like, 9 or so and we're jumping on a bed. Michael Jackson's bed! [laughing] Me and two other boys.

AW: What was something that went on in Breaking Dawn that you wish all of us watching had known about?

BS: In every single scene I was in, it was freezing cold. Everyone would be gathered around the heater. I remember one time I was sitting with ["Leah Clearwater"] and I was smelling something. I was like, 'What's that smell?' Her jacket was melting because she was standing too close to the heater!

AW: Let's talk about the werewolf transformations. Can you reveal some of that magic?

BS: I wish I got to do something for that but I actually didn't have to do anything. It was all the CG team. They just created all the wolves themselves. I think they looked incredible. They looked really good.

Booboo Stewart to star in "House of the Dammed 3D"

Booboo Stewart was announced to star in the Horror/ Thiller "House of the Dammed 3D"

Storyline:
Five friends band together to save the historic part of their town and inadvertently become targets of a serial killer after uncovering the truth behind a series of grisly murders that went unsolved ... Until now!

Filming is set to begin late March in Baton Rouge and Clinton Louisiana.

Another reason to be excited about the production is that they are using 3ality Technica rigs to shoot the horror film in native 3D.

One of the producers, Ethan Terra said: "With House of the Damned 3D our goal is to cross utilize the 3D to submerge the audience so they feel like they are apart of the movie, and of course to pull off some really cool in depth 3D effects. Because this film is controlled by an independent studio we have more creative control over what we can and can not do, and this film is aimed right at the horror fan in all of us."

The Producers: Michael George, David Forbes, Ethan Terra, Nick Smith, and John Sweeney are currently locking cast and in talks with the Legendary Japanese Director Takashi Miike.

All the remaining details of the film are being held strictly confidential to the production, so much in fact that they have circulated various screenplays to the talent and agents so that nobody knows how the actual film ends or which character is the killer....

The Center for Asian American Media (CAAM) has announced that early bird presale tickets will be available February 2, 2012 for the Gala & World Premiere of White Frog, Quentin Lee's much buzzed-about film that kicks off SFIAAFF30's Opening Night on March 8, 2012 (7pm at the Castro Theater).

The film stars Booboo Stewart (The Twilight Saga) as high-school freshman Nick, a young boy with Asperger's syndrome who is often neglected and misunderstood by his seemingly perfect family. Booboo Stewart (BS): iPhone – ‘cause I have one. (Laughs) I actually used to have a Blackberry but iPhone I found there’s just so many things you can do on it. Really, it’s unlimited.

AM: Twitter or Facebook?
BS: It really depends. Twitter’s the faster thing to do when you’re outside or on set, but Facebook is better for communicating with people so it depends on the situation.

AM: Katy Perry of Ke$ha?
BS: Let’s see … (long pause). That’s a hard one – I don’t really listen to that style of music.
(So we spared him on answering this one.)

AM: Cable TV or YouTube?
BS: (Silence). Agh! These are very complicated! I would say TV. I usually watch Netflix, but I do turn my TV on for one TV show and that’s Person of Interest.

AM: Werewolf or vampire?
BS: Werewolf! (without hesitation)

AM: Long or short hair?
BS: For girls, definitely long hair. For myself – I’m actually growing my hair back out so we’ll see.

AM: Acting or singing?
BS: I would say acting.

AM: Good looks or good personality?
BS: Good personality. It’s more fun to hang around someone that you like rather than someone who may be very attractive but not very nice.

FIRST THING THAT COMES TO MIND:

AM: Most important feature on a girl.
BS: Teeth.
(I’m guessing he means a beautiful smile.)

AM: Favorite band?
BS: Boston.

AM: Favorite movie?
BS: Good Fellows. And A Bug’s Life. (Laughs)

AM: Turning 18.
BS: That’s in a few months! My friend was just talking about it last night. I don’t know… I think I’m pretty much going to stay the same. I might drive – maybe?

AM: Celebrity crush?
BS: Adriana Lima.

INTERESTING FACTS:

(1) I used to do yo-yo tricks.
(2) I watch a movie a day – that’s pretty interesting! Not a lot of people do that.
(3) I only turn my TV on for Person of Interest!
(4) I’m afraid of sharks – like insanely afraid of sharks.

ON TWILIGHT:

AM: Now moving on to Twilight – how does your character Seth Clearwater develop in the upcoming Twilight movie?
BS: You get to see Seth’s relationship and friendship grow with Jacob, Edward and the Cullens. You get to see how he becomes more of the peacemaker and just wants everyone to get along. You get to know his personality more.

AM: How has it been playing the character Seth?
BS: It’s been awesome. It’s been like a dream come true being able to be on set and hang out with everybody and just be part of the Twilight saga. Most of us will probably never do a movie this big in our life so it’s really exciting.
AM: I’m sure there will be bigger things coming for you!
BS: I don’t know – Twilight’s pretty big!

AM: And what has been the most interesting experience so far on set?
BS: Probably the fans – the fans knowing where you are. Most of my filming was done in this tiny town in Canada and it was freezing cold but the fans didn’t care. They would be at your hotel and I remember this one time, I was waiting in lobby so we could go to Walmart… (Waiter interrupts to ask if we wanted more water.) I seriously thought that (the huge cup the restaurant uses to serve hot drinks) was for your hands! You know how some fancy restaurants give you this bowl of water to wash your hands. (Laughs) Yeah, so there was this Walmart and I was waiting downstairs in the lobby and this huge group of girls was screaming outside the hotel lobby. It was insane!

AM: What is the one thing you’ll take away from this experience?
BS: A lot of memories and a lot of amazing things that I’ve seen, like thousands of people screaming at me. I’ve also been to some really cool places. I just got back from Spain and that was pretty fun. I was at a film festival – it’s one of the biggest film festivals over in Europe and all these fans showed up for Melissa Rosenberg, the screenwriter, and me.

ON WHITE FROG:

AM: How did you land the role of Nick Young?
BS: I remember hearing about the auditions and I just went in for the auditions. I knew it was a smaller film – a lot smaller than Twilight – but the script was amazing and the character is… (tries to find the right words.) Not many people in their careers would play a character like this and I’m only seventeen! This film was a once in a lifetime opportunity for me so I definitely wanted to jump on it. I studied a lot on YouTube before going into auditions. I just went in there and did what I thought the character would be like. We changed it a lot when I got the part but I guess [Quentin Lee, our director,] saw my potential in doing this role. He was like, “Hmm… I don’t know if that’s what I was thinking” after the auditions, but once I got the part we sat down and really talked about the character. We just wanted to have a meeting together – just him and I in a room. We literally went through the whole script ‘cause I wanted to go [on set] completely knowing my character.

AM: Can you tell us a little more about your character in the movie?
BS: Yeah! My character, Nick Young, has Aspergers. He’s always in the shadows of his over-popular brother, [Harry Shum Jr.]. His brother’s extremely popular – everyone’s always talking about his brother. Nick Young just hides in his brother’s shadows so he keeps to himself a lot. But you get to see him open up and become what he becomes at the end of the movie – which I can’t say!

AM: Was it difficult playing the part?
BS: It was really difficult. I was so tired. Every day I’d come off set and I’d just fall asleep like in the car. Oh my gosh! My brain has never hurt that much in my whole entire life, even after trying to do Math or something like that. I’m so glad I finished school before I had to do that role because there’s no way I could’ve been doing my school work and that role at the same time. [It was difficult in that you were] mentally changing the way you were, like completely. I changed my whole body – the way I stand, the way I thought about things. People with Asperger’s a lot of times would have a glaze over their eyes and in the auditions I was like, “Maybe I’ll just think of nothing and stare into the wall and try to clear my mind.” But then I figured that [my character] he gets fixed on things and gets obsessed on things – so if I’m talking to you I’d be thinking about the thing I thought about yesterday; that’s why it looks like people with Asperger’s sometimes aren’t there because they’re focusing or concentrating on something else so much that they’re just answering because they hear a voice talking to them. That was one of the hardest things to do – to get that look. And I’m not Nick Young the whole time; in between shots I’m just regular. Going back and forth between Nick Young and me was really difficult at times especially when we had a crying scene or something like that. The hardest thing about that was having Asperger’s and crying. And because we all had such a good time on set it was hard to [get into character]. I had to stay in rooms by myself at times because it’s too much fun to go outside.

AM: What was the best part about being part of White Frog?
BS: I think [White Frog] was the happiest set I’ve ever been on. Everyone was just having a good time. I made some really good friends. Almost every day I text these people – the crew members. Usually you don’t see that ‘cause you don’t really get to hang out with the crew a lot so it was awesome.

AM: Was there anyone in particular that you really clicked with?
BS: I really had a great time with Tyler Posen from Teen Wolf. He’s a really cool guy. There was three werewolves on set and they would ask, “Who would win a fight?” and I would always say, “I would!” because I’ve actually killed someone in the movie. I don’t think they’ve ever killed anybody in their shows. But umm… he’s a really cool guy.

AM: What did you take to be the message behind the movie?
BS: I think it’s about not judging people by uh… (pause) – not judging a book by its cover pretty much; staying true to who you are because people all thought of me as this weird person but once they got to know me they find that they like me and I’m actually a nice guy – that Nick Young is actually a nice guy.

OTHER WORK:

AM: Tell us more about this YouTube channel you recently started with your sister Fivel.
BS: It’s the Booboo Fivel channel. We’re really excited about it. We’re going to have videos on this channel that no one else will have because, say, we’re going to a premiere or something like that. We’ll film us getting ready and going to the premiere and no one else will have that video except us, so you’re going to be able to go there and see things you won’t be able to see elsewhere. And Fivel is going to have her own videos on the channel. It’s Fivel’s corner and she’s going to interview celebrities and do tutorials on make-up since people have been complimenting her a lot on her make-up and hair and just fashion stuff. It’s been exciting to be teaming up with YouTube and it’s been so much fun to be able to do stuff on the Internet.

AM: What upcoming plans do you have?
BS: My sister and I are releasing an album. I have a comic book coming out – it’s called Millenium Man. It’s a character I made up when I was twelve. We’re trying to get out to Asia to do some concerts. My sister Fivel Stewart and I are also involved in this company called Four Green Steps. It’s all about going green; they make products that are environmentally friendly. [They make] everything! You have to go to their website – it’s ridiculous! They’re the largest company for doing this and we’re really excited to be part of something that I think is going to be the future of things. And Childhelp – it’s an organization that helps children that have previously been abused. They have villages all around America and they help them get back on their feet. Los Angeles Mission is another thing we like to do – we go feed the homeless every year and oh! Oh yeah! I just got back from Australia – it was awesome! I did a telethon out there where we raised over 13 million dollars. I did it last year as well and it’s all for finding cures for children with diseases and helping children out there. It’s been fun; it’s really been great doing all this stuff.

Which is an awesome website by the way ;) Well I seen Booboo, Maegan, and Fivel play at the Christmas in Ida show in Ida, Michigan. I had never seen them play live and they were great and the new dance Maegan and Fivel did was cool. They are some of the nicest people I have ever met. I met BooBoo this past weekend at Twi-Tour in Orlando 12/10/11. If you ever have a chance to meet him, his sister, Fivel and his mother Renee please take a few minutes to do so. I have met a lot of the Twilight cast via Twi-Tour (Boston & Orlando) or on the "Red Carpet" at the Breaking Dawn Premiere in LA (11/14/11). Out of all the Twilight cast that I have met, BooBoo was my FAVORITE. He really takes the time to know you even with a line of people waiting to meet him and will spend a good amount of time with each and everyone of his fans.

At one time, I told him I met him at the BD premiere and I wanted to show him the Breaking Dawn Premiere book I had made through Kodak and he thought it was GREAT! He actually was really interested where he took the time out and looked through it all ;) Then someone had asked him during the Q&A of what he thought about the BD premiere...and he said did anyone attend. He then said I know one person here who did...Brandy...looking for me in the crowd and I yelled here I AM! lol he waived and said she showed me this awesome book she made from the premiere :) That was SO SWEET! I was shocked! IT WAS AWESOME!

Not only is BooBoo BEYOND AMAZING, his sister so GORGEOUS and sweet taking a picture with me as well as signing my photo of her and BooBoo. His mom, Renee...WHAT A DOLL!!! I love them! BooBoo is very blessed to have such an AMAZING SUPPORTIVE family!!

It’s official. Booboo Stewart signs a letter of intent to star as Aaron Stevens in The Pineville Heist.

The movie is about the seventeen year old Aaron Stevens who stumbles into the aftermath of a five million dollar bank heist gone wrong. Hiding under a canoe, Aaron partially catches the murder of one of the robbers. In the chaos he sneaks away with the money and heads straight for the closest place of safety, his high school. Terrified, Aaron tells his shocking tale to Amanda Becker, his drama teacher, but it doesn’t take long for one of the psychotic robbers to show up. In the locked down school the pair are relentlessly pursued in a quest to get the money back and wipe out the evidence.

Booboo is on board to take on the lead role of Aaron Stevens.
The movie is to be released in 2013.

We have been fortunate to meet Booboo Stewart from
"Twilight" when he was in Denmark for the premiere of "Twilight: Breaking Dawn".

We have met young Booboo Stewart, who plays Seth Clearwater in "Twilight" when he visited Denmark in connection with the premiere of "Twilight: Breaking Dawn". And Booboo Stewart is just as cute in real life, as he is in the movie!
Booboo Stewart was very excited about the Danish "Twilight" fans, and he had not expected that so many people would show up at the premiere.
In the interview on viunge.dk you can hear Booboo Stewart talk about how it was to be in "Twilight," about the fans and the funniest thing that happened during shooting.

Julia Jones and Booboo Stewart loved the opportunity of having quite substantial roles in the new Twilight film, Breaking Dawn - Part 1. The two actors are part of the wolfpack who break free to join Jacob (Taylor Lautner) in his quest to help the Cullens and save Bella's life.

Earlier this month, JJJ got the chance to chat with Booboo Stewart and Julia Jones and since The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 took over the box office again this weekend, we’re debuting their portrait sessions and interviews.

Check out what the Clearwater siblings had to say:

Booboo on keeping himself grounded: “I had to wake up early today because my sister goes to school. My family does normal things. I definitely think they keep me grounded, and I think it’s to do with the fact that I have had the same group of friends my entire life. I have a good understanding of who are actually my friends.”

Julia on the moment she got her phone call: “I remember I was at a sports bar with my boyfriend at the time when I got the call for the audition. From that moment on I had a gut feeling this was going to be a big thing. I was buying a television when I had gotten the call about getting the role.”

Booboo on his greatest memory of the franchise: “Probably the moment I got the phone call! That was one of the happiest moments of my life. When I heard I actually had an audition I was so excited. Before I officially had an audition I was reading all the books.”

Julia on her dream role: “You know what my dream role is? I really want to play Bianca Jagger. I want them to do a biopic on Mick Jagger.”

Booboo on working with the wolf pack: “It was a great experience. For this last film one night we were messing around and we did our lines in a Jamaican accent, It didn’t make it on camera but that was what the vibe was like on set. We were always having fun.”

Julia on her Twilight experience: “Things have been happening so fast. I love living like this, being so present in every moment because it is a demanding job. I don’t have much time to reflect, I think it will take me a couple years and then I’ll be able to look back. Now it has just been so much fun — traveling out of the country has been one of my most favorite parts of this. Sometimes one week I’ll have an appearance in Germany and then the next week in the UK, and I would have seven days in Europe so I would visit. It is a great excuse to be able to have a vacation.”

'Twilight Wolf' Booboo Stewart in Georgia for Concert

A 'Twilight Wolf' visits Georgia Saturday just a week after Twilight's Breaking Dawn Part One hits the big screen.

But he wasn't here for Twilight Wolf Pack business. Booboo Stewart, who plays Seth Clearwater in Twilight was in Lithonia, Georgia for a concert.

Booboo performed with his sisters Fivel and Maegan at StoneCrest Mall.

The actor/singer has been working on an album with his sisters.

In a phone interview, Booboo said he is thrilled with how well Breaking Dawn is doing at the Box Office which is well over 300 million world-wide.

Booboo shared what his favorite scene playing "Seth" in Breaking Dawn Part One was.

'When Seth decides to break of to Taylor's pack (Jacob Black in Twilight). I thought that was cool, that was my favorite scene....It was like one of my first scenes on set where it was really intimate because usually in a movie like Twilight, you're in a scene with like six other people...this is just Taylor and I so that was a very nice scene," says Booboo Stewart, actor/singer & "Seth Clearwater" in Twilight.

Booboo wouldn't spill on what's to come for Breaking Dawn Part Two, but did say we can see him in a whole new and exciting role in the film 'White Frog' coming soon.
